The Friends of H.A. Brown hosted our largest fundraiser to date on November 30, 2018, at Philadelphia Brewing Company. CARNIVAL was a huge success thanks to the generous support of our wonderful village. More than 50 local businesses donated auction and raffle items, as well as in-kind goods including food, drink, entertainment, and printing. Hundreds of friends gathered for our three-hour family-friendly celebration of H.A. Brown Elementary that featured belly dancing and salsa performances, an Argentine tango lesson, stilt walkers, cotton candy, songs and games for kids, and more. We raised nearly $6,000 to support arts programming, Field Day, school beautification, soccer, a visiting author series, mindfulness education, and more.
Additionally, we fulfilled a year-long initiative to help the school raise $12,500 in matching funds to support its partnership with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University. This program provided an authentic writer’s workshop program that will benefit all K-8 students.
